January 06, the Festivity of the Three Maggi that visited Jesus Christ, and What did Aunt Gemima meant to me all in a nut shell

Believe it or not, there is a direct correlation between Aunt Jemima Pancake Mix and January 06, the Feast of the Epiphany …….

It has been 1 year, 1 month, 3 days since I last wrote on this blog, my trampoline to the world to talk about faith, family, world affairs, Geopolitics and other issues .

The night after the elections on 2020 just turned me off so bad I froze in time until today…..

Bot of my daughters are educated women in the fields of Information and Library Sciences and Communications. both have a Masters Degree in their fields and the youngest is still at it pursuing a Doctorates Degree.  I just have  a BS in Science, 1/2 a Masters in Strategic Intelligence which due to separation from the services at a retirement of 15 years did not complete. But I do have 24 years of Radio and Television experience as a military analyst in predominantly Spanish speaking media in the US and some other international forums. I was an instructor in the US Army from my first assignment as a Basic Training Officer, graduated from the Drill Sergeant’s School (ITC ) Instructor’s Training Course in 1978 and in 1991 as an instructor at SOA (School of the Americas) where I taught several courses to include the Intel portion of there Command & General Staff Officers Course.

I am a graduate of both the USA Command & General Staff College (1991) and Marine Corps Command & General Staff College (1989)

 

So when it comes to Communications I do think I know something about it.

I was also a son of a political refugee in 1961 when I arrived to these United States. And here is where my story starts…….

The Aunt Jemima Pancake Mix box I first encountered, had a face of a typical nanny, so much loved in both Latin American and American cultures in the early 17-19 hundreds. Nana as they were called raised us, with much love, even gave us the best meals, and counseled us when we did bad things and were there for a hug or to sleep in their arms when a tear was shed, or you simply had a bad day. so I could relate to the Iconic Aunt Jemima as a soothing , comfort zone product, thinking of my nana.

Roll the calendar several years and Aunt Jemima gets a facelift (Image 2) on the Syrup bottle to make her more appealing into the later part of the 20th Century. We'll leave it to some marketing guru to figure that out, or was it sales the issue? But then Comes the final evolution……… Radical elements on the left, pressure  Pear Milling Company to eliminate the face of even the 20th century updated version because it is a symbol of slavery, oppression, subjugation and the adverbs go on and on……..

First, I will tell you that I feel bad for the Pearl Milling Company, cause they may loose more market share because of product recognition, and name…. regardless if the same image and color codes remain… people have a tendency to pick a product at a market by name and if it does not look right they will move on…..

Second, no one will ever change my mind, of nana, and Aunt Jemima, never did my parents  put a connotation that it was racist, or slavery. It just simply did not cross our minds.

So he who controls communications, can change patterns of behavior, and thought to younger generations? huh? what a concept…… and that is exactly my friends what is going on, just in 60 years they did it with a pancake mix, and the brains of the millennials. Young adults now claim it was a necessary measure to change those symbols of slavery…. and by the way blame us in the 21st century for the sins of our forefathers, as this nation evolved into what it is today. And yes we now have to pay reparations to all descendants 14 generations ago.

I am not a biggot, I do not discriminate, i have friends from every part of the world and do carry blood of Taino Indians, Black and white Spaniard with a Greek Ancestry from the Canary Islands. 

I can’t understand how a plain pan cake mix became a from line, to the point a manufacturer  had to change completely their name, an iconic name recalling so many beautiful memories into an article of hate, discrimination, slavery.…  and I frankly feel for them cause name recognition means a lot and may represent significant  losses of market share.

So that takes care of Aunt Jemima, now lets talk about the epiphany.

According to archaeologists, Christians began celebrating Epiphany from as early as 200 AD in the Greek-speaking eastern parts of the Roman Empire, and these celebrations began as a commemoration of Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River.

However, Western European Christians increasingly began to associate Epiphany with the visit of the Magi to the newborn Jesus Christ.

For this reason, many parts of the West call Epiphany ”The Small Christmas” up to this day.
However, both Churches commemorate the groundbreaking revelation of God to the world, either via the three Magi or Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist.

So here we are again, January the 6th, and the News is all about the Riots at the Capitol a year ago, another embarrassing day for America, a day that should have never happened. a Regretful  day in our history, but should never overshadow, the fact that today is the Epiphany of Christ Jesus, the Theophany  of Christ….  a time when as little kids in Cuba we would get our gifts, Santa Claus we learned about when we got to the US in 1961, you would have to put grass for the camels outside and oared that you behaved and got something from these 3 Maggi….

That is what this day is all about, and it has been obliterated by the events of last year…. a Christ born and died almost 2,000 years, Baptized or visited by Maggi, the Greatest Story ever told is second page to a regretful day a year ago, huh interesting……

Aunt Jemima, are we trying to change values again? the real meaning of January 6th?  what a concept?

Ha pasado 1 año, 1 mes, 3 días desde la última vez que escribí en este blog, mi trampolín al mundo para hablar sobre la fe, la familia, los asuntos mundiales, la geopolítica y otros temas.

La noche después de las elecciones de 2020 me desanimó tanto que me congelé en el tiempo hasta hoy ...

Mis dos  hijas son mujeres educadas en los campos de la Información y Bibliotecología y Comunicaciones. ambas tienen una maestría en sus campos y la más joven todavía está cursando un doctorado. Yo obtuve  una licenciatura en ciencias, la 1/2 de una maestría en inteligencia estratégica que debido a la separación de los servicios en una jubilación de 15 años no se completó. Pero tengo 24 años de experiencia en radio y televisión como analista militar en medios predominantemente de habla hispana en los Estados Unidos y en algunos otros foros internacionales. Fui instructor en el Ejército de los EE. UU. Desde mi primera asignación como Oficial de Capacitación Básica, me gradué del Curso de Capacitación de Instructores de Drill Sergeant's School (ITC) en 1978 y en 1991 como instructor en SOA (School of the Americas) donde enseñé varios cursos para incluir la parte de Intel del curso para oficiales de comando y estado mayor.

Me gradué de la Escuela de Comando y Estado Mayor de EE. UU. (1991) y de la Escuela de Comando y Estado Mayor del Cuerpo de Marines (1989) Entonces, cuando se trata de Comunicaciones, creo que sé algo al respecto.

También era hijo de un refugiado político en 1961 cuando llegué a estos Estados Unidos. Y aquí es donde comienza mi historia …….

La caja de Aunt Jemima Pancake Mix que encontré por primera vez, tenía la cara de una niñera típica, muy querida en las culturas latinoamericanas y americanas a principios de los siglos XVII y XIX. Nana como los llamaban nos crió, con mucho cariño, incluso nos dio las mejores comidas, y nos aconsejó cuando hacíamos cosas malas y estábamos ahí para un abrazo o para dormir en sus brazos cuando se derramaba una lágrima, o simplemente tenías un mal día. para poder relacionarme con la icónica tía Jemima como un producto relajante y de zona de confort, pensando en mi abuela.

Pase el calendario varios años y la tía Jemima se renovará (Imagen 2) en la botella de Jarabe para hacerla más atractiva en la última parte del siglo XX. Dejaremos que algún gurú del marketing lo resuelva, ¿o fue el problema de las ventas? Pero luego viene la evolución final ……… Elementos radicales de la izquierda, presionan a Pear Milling Company para eliminar la cara incluso de la versión actualizada del siglo XX porque es un símbolo de esclavitud, opresión, subyugación y los adverbios siguen y siguen …… ..

Primero, les diré que me siento mal por Pearl Milling Company, porque es posible que pierdan más participación de mercado debido al reconocimiento del producto y al nombre…. independientemente de que permanezcan los mismos códigos de imagen y color… la gente tiende a elegir un producto en un mercado por su nombre y si no se ve bien, seguirán adelante… ..

En segundo lugar, nunca nadie cambiará de opinión, de nana, y tía Jemima, mis padres nunca pusieron una connotación de que era racista o esclavitud. Simplemente no se nos pasó por la cabeza.

Entonces, quien controla las comunicaciones, ¿puede cambiar los patrones de comportamiento y pensamiento de las generaciones más jóvenes? ¿eh? qué concepto …… y eso es exactamente lo que están pasando mis amigos, solo en 60 años lo hicieron con una mezcla de panqueques, y el cerebro de los millennials. Los adultos jóvenes ahora afirman que era una medida necesaria para cambiar esos símbolos de la esclavitud…. y, por cierto, culparnos en el siglo XXI por los pecados de nuestros antepasados, ya que esta nación se convirtió en lo que es hoy. Y sí, ahora tenemos que pagar reparaciones a todos los descendientes hace 14 generaciones.

No soy un racista, no discrimino, tengo amigos de todas partes del mundo y llevo sangre de indios taínos, español blanco y negro de ascendencia griega de las Islas Canarias.

No puedo entender cómo una mezcla simple de pastel de pan se convirtió en una línea de partida, hasta el punto en que un fabricante tuvo que cambiar completamente su nombre, un nombre icónico que recuerda tantos hermosos recuerdos en un artículo de odio, discriminación, esclavitud ... y francamente siente por ellos porque el reconocimiento de nombres significa mucho y puede representar pérdidas significativas de participación de mercado.

Así que eso se encarga de la tía Jemima, ahora hablemos de la epifanía.

Tradicionalmente, la gran fiesta de la Epifanía marca el final del período prolongado de vacaciones de Navidad en Grecia.

Cada año, el 6 de enero, cientos de miles de griegos y visitantes participan de las ricas tradiciones que se observan en todas y cada una de las ciudades y pueblos del país, lo que la convierte en una de las fiestas más especiales del año.

La Epifanía es una de las fiestas cristianas más importantes de todo el año porque es la conmemoración de la revelación de Jesucristo como Dios.

La epifanía también se conoce como teofanía; Ambos términos derivan de las palabras griegas para "revelación" y la "revelación de Dios", o "Επιφάνεια" (epipháneia

Esta fiesta única es celebrada tanto por la Iglesia Oriental como Occidental, y millones de personas en todo el mundo participan en liturgias, misas y muchos otros eventos tradicionales que tienen lugar en este día.

En la tradición cristiana ortodoxa, a la que también pertenece la Iglesia ortodoxa griega, la fiesta de la Epifanía se asocia con el bautismo de Jesucristo en el río Jordán.

Según los arqueólogos, los cristianos comenzaron a celebrar la Epifanía desde el año 200 d.C. en las partes orientales de habla griega del Imperio Romano, y estas celebraciones comenzaron como una conmemoración del bautismo de Jesús en el río Jordán.

Sin embargo, los cristianos de Europa occidental comenzaron a asociar cada vez más la Epifanía con la visita de los magos al recién nacido Jesucristo.

Por esta razón, muchas partes de Occidente llaman a la Epifanía "La Pequeña Navidad" hasta el día de hoy. Sin embargo, ambas Iglesias conmemoran la revelación revolucionaria de Dios al mundo, ya sea a través de los tres Magos o del bautismo de Jesús por Juan el Bautista.

Así que aquí estamos de nuevo, el 6 de enero, y las noticias tratan sobre los disturbios en el Capitolio hace un año, otro día vergonzoso para Estados Unidos, un día que nunca debería haber sucedido. Un día lamentable en nuestra historia, pero que nunca debe eclipsar, el hecho de que hoy es la Epifanía de Cristo Jesús, la Teofanía de Cristo…. una época en la que cuando éramos niños en Cuba recibíamos nuestros regalos, nos enteramos de Santa Claus cuando llegamos a los EE. UU. en 1961, tendrías que poner pasto para los camellos afuera y remarcar que te comportaste y obtuviste algo de estos 3 Maggi ….

De eso se trata este día, y ha sido borrado por los eventos del año pasado…. un Cristo nacido y muerto hace casi 2000 años, bautizado o visitado por Maggi, la historia más grande jamás contada es la segunda página de un lamentable día hace un año, eh interesante ……
