Regime forces killed more than 109 people in Damascus and its suburbs. Rebel fighters gain new grounds in Damascus and Deir Azzour. Shot down a helicopter gunship in the Raqa suburb of Dibsy Afnan. Seized control of the army recruitment compound in the Deir Azzour suburb of Boukamal. Summary of Events Regime forces stepped up attacks on opposition strongholds shelling more than 217 different areas throughout the country. Warplanes pounded more than 17 areas while heavy artillery shelled 167 others, mainly in Damascus, Aleppo, Homs and Idlib. Regime forces killed 180 people, including 22 children, 20 women, three under torture and 40 rebel fighters. The southern part of Damascus and several towns in its suburbs were under heavy shelling by warplanes, tanks and heavy artillery killing and injuring dozens of people including women and children. They killed 36 people in the East Ghouta district and 15 others in the provincial town of Daraya. They also killed 11 people in the neighbourhoods of Tadamon, Jobar and the Palestinian refugee camp. Meanwhile, more than 24 rebel fighters died during clashes that erupted on several fronts in the capital and its suburbs. At least 20 people died in Idlib, of which 14 were killed in airstrike on a residential compound in the provincial town of Ma’arrat Na’san. Some 17 others died in Aleppo due to the heavy bombardments on the neighbourhoods of Ithaa, Sukari, Tal Zarayer and the village of Sheikh Ahmed in the suburb. Ten rebel fighters were killed in an airstrike on the Hasaka suburb of Ras al-Ain while nine civilians were killed in Daraa in addition to six others in Homs, four in each of Hama and Deir Azzour and one more in Raqa. Activists said that a road side bomb exploded near al-Bishara church in the city of Raqa killing its Mayor and injuring two of his bodyguards. Another car bomb exploded in the Damascus suburb of Ain Feejeh causing some injuries and material damage; in the meantime, four children were killed in another road side bomb in the neighbourhood of al-Waer in Homs. Clashes were reported in more than 143 different areas across the country with the rebels continuing to gain grounds in the suburbs of Damascus, they took over a governmental building, a TV station and an air defense base in the East Ghouta district. They also stormed three checkpoints in the Damascus suburb of Daraya and raided the army recruitment branch in the Deir Azzour suburb of Boukamal. They shot down a helicopter gunship in the Raqa suburb of Debsi Afnana and destroyed a number of military tanks and armored vehicles during clashes in Aleppo, Homs, Daraa, Hasaka and Quanitara.
