Summary of Events Regime forces stormed the village of Malkiya located in the eastern Aleppo suburb of Sfeera, carrying out arson, looting, rape and torture that claimed the lives of more than 70 people, including women, children and elderly, as a collective punishment for housing and supporting the rebel fighters seeking to topple the Assad regime. A survivor said that the forces committed this massacre took off from the nearby base of the military factories, one of the largest in Aleppo. Moreover, regime forces shelled more than 374 locations across the country, 20 of which were pounded with fighter jets while three others were hit by Scud-type missiles, one of which landed in the village of Mahmoudly in the northern province of Raqa. Today’s death toll reached more than 244. Regime forces and loyalist militiamen killed at least 204 people, including 20 children, 14 women, 38 rebel fighters and seven killed under torture, whereas the rebels killed more than 40 soldiers and militiamen. More than 59 people were killed in Damascus and its suburbs, most of whom died as a result of the indiscriminate shelling in the neighborhood of Jobar and in the provincial towns of Zabadani, Irbin and Douma. Meanwhile, some five civilians were executed and their bodies were burnt in the town of Harran Awamid of the East Ghouta district. Regime shelling and sniping killed ten more people in the western Aleppo suburb of Khan Asal. The indiscriminate shelling also killed two children in the Aleppo suburb of Bab al-Nerab, five in the Idlib suburb of Saraqeb, three in the village of Ezzedin in the suburb of Homs and five rebel fighters in the village of Jinan in the suburb of Hama. Rebel fighters fired mortar shells at Damascus’s most highly-secured area in the district of Kafersouseh, which houses several intelligence and military branches, including the Raid Branch No. 215 and the Military Security Branch. The rebels also destroyed three military tanks and a number of vehicles as they repelled a major ground assault on the Damascus suburb of Adra where they continued to besiege the base of the army’s 39thBrigade. Heavy losses were inflicted on the regime’s air force as the rebels shot down a fighter jet in the East Ghouta district of Damascus province and a helicopter gunship in the Raqa suburb of Ayn Eisa. They also destroyed two helicopter gunships stationed inside the Minneg airbase in the suburb of Aleppo. A group of Palestinian armed militiamen of the Damascus-based pro-regime “Palestinian Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – The General Command” (PFLP-GC) headed by Ahmad Jebril, announced their defection in condemnation of the front’s pro-regime policy and formed what they called the “Palestinian Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – The Free Command”. Heavy fighting continued in the vicinity of the Justice Palace in Aleppo city as well as inside the police academy in the western suburb of Khan Asal. The rebels used military tanks and heavy artillery as they continued their attacks on Aleppo’s international airport and the military airports of Nerab, Minneg and Kuwaires.
