Summary of Events

The rebels kept pressing in on Syria’s second airport and the Nerab airbase for the second day in a raw. Today, theystormed the nearby military checkpoints of Shoroukh Petrol Station and Asan Bridge alongside the road to the airport and destroyed two MiG fighter jets stationed at the Nerab airbase.
 
This came as heavy fighting continued in the vicinity of the Minnegh and Kuwaires airbases in the suburb of Aleppo where the rebels also destroyed another military convoy in the town of Tal Aran near the eastern suburb of Sfeera.
 
In Damascus, the rebels fired mortar shells into an intelligence compound near the Abbasids square in the east and attacked the Yarmouk municipality building used as a military barrack in Palestine Road in the south. The rebels also stormed a telephone center and a checkpoint in the town of Harasta as heavy fighting continued in DarayaZamalka and Qalamon. They captured a number of military vehicles a destroyed others in Adra and bombed a security building in the town of Sayeda Zeinab.
 
In Daraa, the rebels seized full control of the southeastern town of Jiza, destroyed a military convoy and attacked an artillery base in the town of El Sahoah in the east.
 
The rebels also shot down a helicopter gunship near the Qarmid Factory in the Idlib suburb of Nerab where clashes also continued in the vicinity of the Shabiba and Hamdiya camps.
 
They also stormed two more military checkpoints near the Hasaka suburb of Shadadi and attacked many others in the Hama suburb of Salamiya and in the Homs suburb of Talbisa.
 
Regime forces continued their attacks on residential areas within the rebels-held towns in Syria, shelling as many as 303 locations across the country, 22 of which were pounded with warplanes using cluster, phosphorous, thermboaric and explosive bombs, causing extensive material damages and forcing thousands of civilians to flee their homes.
 
Today’s death toll reached more than 231. Regime forces and loyalist militiamen killed at least 182 people, including 20 children, nine women and 59 rebel fighters, whereas the rebels killed more than 49 soldiers and militiamen.
 
Regime forces committed a horrific massacre in the district of Jobar, east of Damascus. Bombarding it with heavy artillery and rocket launchers in a bid to force the rebels out of it, thus leaving at least 16 people dead including two children. Snipers stationed on the rooftop of the police station kept firing indiscriminately on civilians amid a suffocating siege on the entire area.
 
Regime forces also committed two more massacres in Idlib, one in Kafernabel were more than ten people were killed and dozens others were injured due to the indiscriminate rocket shelling that targeted civilians’ houses. Another massacre was committed in the village of Bashiriya in the Jabal Zawiya district where four children and a woman were killed as a result of the indiscriminate aerial bombardments.
 
The violent shelling also left 25 more people dead in the neighborhoods of Karm Tarab, Shaar, Myasar, Sakhour and Qadi Askar in Aleppo city, as well as in the village of Tarkan and in the provincial towns of Sfeera and Deir Hafer in its suburbs.
 
More than 21 people were killed in Daraa as well, the majority of whom died due to the violent shelling in the towns of Sanamin, Shajara and Jiza, while two others were summarily executed near municipality building of Daraa city.
 
Regime forces and loyalist militiamen executed seven people after kidnaping them from the neighborhood of Karm Shami where they also carried out an extrajudicial arrest and looting campaign, arresting three more women and two men from the same family. Meanwhile, two children and a woman were killed as a result of the continued shelling in the town of Houla in the suburb of Homs.
